Constitution Town of Eidsvoll

Eidsvoll, the town where the Norwegian constitution was written, is a scenic town with about 23,000 inhabitants, centrally located about an hour away from both Lillehamar and Oslo, while being rural enough that the hustle and bustle of the big cities doesn't quite reach it. Here, one can enjoy nature on many pilgrimage routes, see the town from the top of Mistberget at 672 meters above sea level, or take a boat trip up Mjøsa, perhaps even on Skibladner, the world's oldest paddle steamer in operation, if the season is right.

In Easter 2008, a large black and white cat came wandered from the forest. He looked like he had been fending for himself for a while, and quickly charmed his way into Mom's heart!

Oliver is now over 17 years old, who has been through a lot of hardships in his nine lives, and has had guardian angels several times! He has survived being shot with a rifle, being a "toy" in a tug of war between two large dogs, and had a brainstroke!

After all of this, we realized it was safer to be an indoor cat, and Oliver is happy with that! He loves lazy days in his teepee or in the bedroom window when the sun is shining, he loves clicker training and treats, and otherwise just being where his humans, it's important for him to look after his flock!

There is no doubt that Oliver was meant to be here! After all this, he is a happy old boy in good shape for his age.

Mom and Oliver also do something fun and creative that few other cats do, they make decorative objects in concrete, paint and sell them!

Marta came to us early in March, and we have spent some time coming up with fun activities! During her time here so far, Marta Mouse and Oliver have been on a camping trip, had wellness massages, done candy hunts, and painted concrete statues!

On Saturday, March 25, she visited her in-laws up in the deep forests of Gullverket. There, Lucifer and Doffen live in a large house and their own barn. They have moose in the garden and squirrels on the porch, and especially the squirrel has to watch out for Lucifer, as he is an experienced hunter!

Doffen is a bit more leisurely and only hunts Lucifer when he feels like it! Outside, they are buddies, but inside they are more like Tom and Jerry, except Doffen, who is a German Shepherd/Lapphund mix, not a mouse!
He wasn't that interested in MartaMouse and was more focused on getting his belly scratched!

When we were in the deep forests of Gullverket, we also visited Norway's oldest gold mine! The mines are closed due to rockfall danger, but there is a museum there!

On March 28, we took our last sightseeing trip before MartaMus continues her tour, to the iconic "Eidsvollsbuilding", where the constitution was written!

Now we hope MartaMus has enjoyed herself and learned a little while she has been with us, and that she has a great trip ahead!
