Marta in France
On Saturday 20/5, Marta Mus came to us with the French post, Colissimo, delivered to the door. Now Marta is with Tekla in Béziers, France. We hope Marta will enjoy the warmth and sun, 2 miles from the Mediterranean Sea and about 12 miles to Spain. Béziers is one of France's oldest cities, approximately 2600 years old. Today, there are 80,000 people living in the city. Unfortunately, Béziers is most known for the massacres of the Cathars who sought refuge in the cathedral and the Madeleine Church. Many hundreds were burned in 1209 by the French army. Pilgrims also passed through here on their way to Compostela in Spain.
Marta now lives centrally in Béziers, near the house where the leader of the French resistance movement, Jean Moulin, was born. Béziers was long one of the major centers for wine trade. We are in Languedoc, which is still the world's largest wine region. If you are a farmer here, you are a wine farmer.
Tekla was born in Montpellier, which is a much larger university town and has a medical faculty that is 800 years old.
Tekla was born on the street and was half a year old when she came to the animal shelter, SPA, from where we adopted her about 9 years ago. We will celebrate her 10th anniversary this summer. Tekla is more interested in the gardening on the terrace and constantly needs to inspect the ongoing painting. Poor Marta is sitting in the heat and sweating; today, as we celebrate a Scandinavian national day, it's 30 degrees. Marta will probably head north before the really hot weather arrives, we guess.
